"WEEKEND" BREAKS 2010-09

"And he says its brilliant there

There's something in the air

And sunshine everywhere

He's on the beach

I know he's changed somehow

He sends us postcards now

I'm not sure where he is, but he is out of reach."

(Kirsty MacColl, "He's On The Beach")

THE LAKES

(July 10)

Sophia, Nasreen, Tahira, Danyai and Digger enjoy another weekend camping in the Lakes.

NORTH DEVON

(July 10)

No not a Lowry painting but Woolacombe is One of the longest beaches in England (its also good for surfing, sometimes).

A small band of dedicated surfers spent a weekend here.

But one of the nicest place for a sea swim in the area is actually Rockham Bay (can you spot the swimmer in this photo?)

YORKSHIRE

(July 10)

After the Deer Shed festival (very nice indeed) a cultural day was spent exploring the sites of North Yorkshire. However, the best photo was taken by Gabriel Smyth (and an auto-timer photo too!!)

This is an auto-timer photo CLICK HERE to see similar photographs

STAFFORDSHIRE

(July 10)

Why, I hear you ask did the gang assemble in Staffordshire? Have you turned into train spotters?

This photo is an example of self-photography, CLICK HERE to find out more

No. It was Neil's birthday and therefore his choice.

We are clearly all a year older as it was exhausting!

But there was a swim! And it was near a pub!

GLASTONBURY

(June 10)

Forty years old and still going strong.

Just like us?!

Ooh, weren't you two here in 1984?!

THE LAKE DISTRICT

(May 10)

Langdale is probably one of my favourite places in the lakes.

Its great for walking whether you are small.

Or slightly older!

Its great for camping (although can rain!)

Its great for Lakes (and the inevitable swimming)!

But for many of us it brings back memories of good times with our friend Mark "The Priest"

SHARNBROOK SUMMIT!!

(April 10)

Bedfordshire is a renown location for mountains and hills.

Following on from the Cullins and as part of training for the Lake District weekend (described above) I managed to reach the top of "Sharnbrook Summit" (difficult to believe I know!)

"Mountain" biking in Bedfordshire (you did know that there were "mountains" in Bedfordshire didn't you?!!

ISLE OF SKYE

(Late March 10)

The Cullin Hills are spectacular at the best of times, but in snow.................

Sunset over Talisker Bay (which is not as close to the distillery as once might think.

The setting was magical with the sea on one side and the Cuillins on the other, but it was a bit cold.

However, with bellies filled with whiskey it felt like a boys night out on the town!

MANCHESTER

(Feb 10)

Tahira, Sophia, strange bearded man and digger.

LEEDS

(January 10)

Despite the snowy conditions the (once) mighty Wycombe Wanderers visited Elland Road, Leeds, for the first (and possibly the last time) ever!!

DORSET

(October 09)

Don't tell anyone but I fitted in an October STD this year with Russell. Well it was Julias birthday so we had to celebrate. Strangely she decided not to join us. Even so it was heaven. Especially as there were no incidents!!

Mark, Zoe and Digger spent a weekend in Zoes caravan near Dunich, Suffolk. Its on "(possibly) the friendliest caravan park in the world". Its also by the sea!!

And there are rivers which some people (well Zoe, Mark, Digger, Anna, Owen, Kerry and Rebecca) jump into!!

Someone (unamed but after a lifetime of river swimming really should know better) wore his glasses while messing about in the river! This was, of course, a planned action to create a bonding group event that resulted in a passing boat rowed by, no other than, an optician to join in. However, RESPECT to Mark (of the STD incident fame!) for recovering them on the river bed and thanks to everyone for helping look.

THE LAKES

(late July 09)

Tahira, Sophia, JT, Neil and Digger spent a weekend in the Lakes in memory of Mark "the priest". We scattered his ashes on a hill overlooking Ryedal Water (see above). This was one of many places in the Lakes that Mark loved to visit.

WYCOMBE WANDERERS

(May)

All WWFC had to do on their last game of the League Two footy season to gain promotion to the "dizzy" heights of League One was NOT LOSE. In front of a capacity crowd they really did appear to be trying to blow their chance of auto-matic promotion. Notts County, a team which had only won four previous away games this season and who had nothing to play for (oh except pride and professionalism) deservidly beat us 2:1. WE HAD LOST.

Fortuntely Bury didn't seem to know that they needed to score two goals and they would be promoted instead of us on goal difference and be up. So we were PROMOTED back to League One and some excellent performances this season were rewarded rather than the final poor one. And even better, Peterbrough were promoted from League One so there is no danger of spending a sad afternoon there again if we get relegated (thats was our last game in League One).

NORTH BEDFORDSHIRE

(April 09)

I have recently had a few weekends at home. Its quite nice!!

MORECOMBE

(Feb 09)

Mark and Digger at Morecombe v WWFC (there were actually more fans there than this photo suggests!!). Sadly within 4 weeks of this trip Mark had passed away.

BEDFORDSHIRE

(Feb)

Probably as near as it will ever get to a "white-out" in Bedfordshire (River Ouse in background). No need to go to Scotland this year to find the snow.......

THE PEAKS

(Jan 09)

Digger having tea with inverted clouds in valley in background. Weird.
