Island of Arran (2015- June)

MacDigger of Arran

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Mac Digger will show you photos of his first trip to Arran in thirty years on this page. Thanks to Ruth for organising yet another awesome holiday.

Getting there

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Although there is this famous bridge on Arran you can’t use it to get there from the mainland

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
You have to go by ferry

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
The ferries are rather pleasant compared to flying (they let you wander round and you can buy chips!)

Archaeology

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Arran is famous for its archaeology (here is one of the Machrie Moor stone circles)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
And this is what it looks like at midnight

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Midnight and a full moon. Isn’t that a “special” time…………..see below

Geology

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Some people (well Ruth) think Arran is also famous for its Geology (here you can see a conformity, or was it a dis-conformity, or was it a un-conformity………….)

Animals

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
DEER. Arran is famous for its deer who are full members of the Lochranza golf course based on the way they sit on the greens

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
BEAST. In this photo Digger has managed to capture a selfie with the “beast of Arran”. A dangerous wild animals that needs to be kept on a lead (just incase the sheep and rabbits attack him!). His real name is Merlin and he likes mud.

Activities

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
There is lots to do on Arran. You can rock climb. (Note. to Ben- how did you make that photo you took of me on another holiday look realistic?!)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Admire the views.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Go for walks

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Including walking to the best beach (and swim spot) on Arran

The Beach

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
The beach is stunning (and if you are lucky you will find Pamela eating a picnic on it)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
The beach is wonderful and the Loch water is irresistible……….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Full details of this and other swim spots on the New Swims page

 Lochs

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Here is another one

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Irresistible………….

Rivers

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Of course, Arran also has rivers which are also good for bathing/swimming (see New Swims page for details)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
The Hoff and Pami by a river on Arran

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Its enough to make you go all weird!

 The sea

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Arran is an island so it has lots of sea

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
The sea is good for swimming. Here by the “historic” kings cave which was featured in the well known book “Robert and the Spider”

Kilts and spiders

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
You can tell by the look on these peoples faces that they know this person isn’t wearing real tartan

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Just as you can tell that Rowan and Ruth know that they are stood next to someone in real MacDigger tartan. Can you see the spiders web?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
This photo shows “someone” in a real tartan kilt stood next to a fake spiders web

Druids

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Many archaeologists think that the druids were based on Anglesey (North Wales). Some even believe that the druids had nothing to do with stones erected by prehistoric people over two thousand years before the Druidic priesthood existed……

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
But how then do they explain this vision seen at midnight of the full moon?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
They can’t of course. Although they will probably blame the consumption of whiskey……….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Remember you learn more under the moonlight than in any classroom or lecture theatre.

Sunsets over the holiday

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
View over the coast from the house

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
View inside the house at dinner time (not the vision of the moon top right)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Thank you Arran and thank you everyone who went on the holiday
