Abhainn Chonaig (Morvich)

Location
One of several pools in the Abhainn Chronaig to the east of Morvich, Kintail. Park opposite the Outdoor Centre, cross the road bridge and follow the footpath along the valley for 4km. The pool is difficult to find but is below a small waterfall so the sound of this may guide in in!!

This is a good spot for an early morning dip with good views of the hills all around. Its midge-free, but theres not enough room for a proper swim.

Bit of a steep climb down to the spot.

Compared to its neighbour the River Croe this is a disappointing river. However, if you need an early morning dip then this spot will do, but theres not enough room for a proper swim.

Ok, here’s the bad news 1. Its next to a footbridge so no skinny dipping please, 2. MIdges live here!

Alit Undalain (Shiel Bridge)

Off the A87 at Sheil Bridge. Park on the deadend road to the old bridge near the campsite and Post Office

Easy parking and access to the pool which is below the old Shiel Bridge.

None really (well unless the rivers full then it tends to be fast flowing with large trees in it!)

Loch Coire nan Crogachan (Shiel Bridge)

Park off the A87 at Sheil Bridge. Walk up the “corbett” known as Sgurr Mhic Bharraich and its the biggest bit of water up there.

You are half way up a mountain which on good days has fantastic views. What more could you ask for?

None really! I suppose it would be cold in the winter.

Location
One of several swimming spots along the River Croe to the east of Morvich, Kintail. Park opposite the Outdoor Centre, but this time follow the track which starts c. 50m before the centre. Continue for about 1km and the swim should be obvious on your left.

Location
One of several swimming spots along the River Croe to the east of Morvich, Kintail. Park opposite the Outdoor Centre, follow the road for 100m, cross the road bridge and follow the north bank until you find the meander in the river.

Easy access from a shelving sandy bank. Gets very deep in middle. Strange underwater grass to look for.
Hazards
Other than the surprising depth watch out for midges!!!

River Shiel (Shiel Bridge)
(A FIVE TRUNK PLUS location)
Location
On the south side of the A87 near the Battle of Glen Sheil sign. Park in the lay-by, cross the road and the pool should be visible immediately.

Features
Easy parking, lovely pool with fast and slow water, adjacent historic battlefield and wonderful setting. What more could you ask for?

None really (well unless you count French tourists looking for the battle site, and getting quite a sight!)
